With a staff of ten full time employees and 280 to 300 regular corporate clients, Burl-Oak is a company that has shown it can adapt to the changing economic needs.

Gil Smith
Chief Executive Officer
Gil grew up in the east end of Hamilton near Parkdale Avenue and lived there for 27 years. In 1976, he moved to Burlington. Before starting his own company, he had fourteen years of technical experience and five years experience in management. For two years prior to founding Burl-Oak, Gil spent two years as Manufacturing Manager controlling four facilities, two in Ohio and two in Tennesse. Upon returning to Canada in 1992—and finding the economy in a recession, he decided to open Burl-Oak Systems. 14 years later, the business is flourishing.
Gil is an avid sports fan and plays hockey, baseball, football and golf. He prefers the warehouse to his own office and enjoys a good cigar.

Colleen Murakami
Corporate Sales
In the three years Colleen has been with the company, she has taken numerous courses in sales, public speaking, and networking; acquired some of Burl-Oak's largest customers, and is currently earning her Business Institute Training Diploma through Mohawk College. She attends night school, and is President of the B.R.E. (Business Referrals Exchange) networking group. Colleen enjoys talking with people (You would have to, to do her job!) and has a great sense of humour.
Colleen's background is in accounting and catering. She worked as a Tax Consultant for ten years. Colleen "accidentally" fell into her job at Burl-Oak and spent her first day at work shredding files.
