New Design
As a part of our re-design, a number of features have been added to this site to improve usability: Fonts are now scaleable, style sheets control the layout, and access keys have been added to allow for keyboard navigation.
Saving Trees and Bandwidth
The Burl-Oak Systems website is printer-friendly and optimized for mobile users. When printing you will notice that most graphics and the navigation menu are not displayed. For wireless and voice-enabled browsers, a "skip navigation" link and links to the top of each page (and to different sections within a long document) help to reduce scrolling and tabbing. Up-to-date desktop browsers can make use of these as well.
Access Keys
Access keys have been added for users who have difficulty moving a mouse, or simply prefer to use keyboard commands. Below, are the keyboard shortcuts available for this site. So long as your Web browser is up to date, you should not experience any conflicts.
- A = Accessibility Statement/ Access Key Legend (this page)
- H = Home
- C = Contact Us
- P = Products
- V = Service
- S = Specials
- L = Location
- T = Tips
- U = About Us
How to Use Access Keys
Hold down the Alt key (Windows) or the Ctrl key (Mac) while typing the letter of the page you wish to navigate to. Depending on your browser, you may need to hit the Enter or Return key as well.
Standards-Compliance
All pages on this site are valid XHTML 1.0 Strict, WAI-AAA or WAI-AA and Section 508 compliant. The markup is semantic, the layout, table-less. Style sheets are valid CSS-3. Please feel free to check them for yourself. Links to the markup and CSS validation results are located at the bottom of each page.
Other Assistive Techniques Used
Browsers with full CSS-3 support (Firefox, Netscape version 7+, Safari...) will display a small globe icon next to an off-site link:
When printing, the full URL to an external page is printed in square brackets after the link text. Tooltip title text (i.e., for abbreviations) is printed in square brackets following the text that appears on screen.
By default, all links on this site reuse the current window or tab, a behaviour which can be overridden with your browser controls.
Graceful Degradation
If your browser is seriously out-of-date, I'm afraid you will receive unstyled content. The reason for this is, old browsers are incapable of rendering complex style sheets correctly. The good news is, you should have no trouble viewing the un-styled content. Opera prior to version 6 for Windows and Internet Explorer version 5.5 tend to mess things up a bit. The content is readable, though the site does not look the way it was intended. For security reasons (and better CSS support), you should keep your Web browser up to date.
